In 1991, we (Hidayat and Brenda Khan) were blessed with a beautiful daughter, Fatima Khan. She was born with several medical issues, with a heart condition being her main health concern. During her lifetime, she underwent several major heart surgeries.

She was an active and healthy girl for most of her life. She loved going to school and participating in homework and family activities. She enjoyed playing with her cousins, going to the park and the store, and taking part in special school activities and games.

  Having a child with special needs can greatly change and limit many parts of family life. Fatima brought us comfort and joy every day of her life.
  The Prophet Muhammad ﷺ said:

    إِنَّ مِنْ أَكْمَلِ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ إِيمَانًا أَحْسَنُهُمْ خُلُقًا وَأَلْطَفُهُمْ بِأَهْلِهِ

   “Indeed among the believers with the most complete faith is the one who is the best in conduct and the most kind to his family.”

    (Sunan At-Tirmizi)

June 25, 2007, was the saddest day of our lives. Fatima passed away at the age of 16 years and 4 months. May Allah bless her soul. On that day, we not only lost our daughter, but we also felt as though we had lost our whole world. It took us months to begin finding our way forward, and life has never been the same.

  Losing a child is unbearable. May Allah protect every parent from ever having to endure such a loss. It is something we would not wish even upon an enemy.

   “The sorrow we feel when we lose a loved one is the price we pay to have had them in our lives.”

During this very difficult time, our friends and family helped us with Fatima’s burial expenses, which were significant.

                 Today, a typical burial can cost about $7,500.

  The Birth of Fatima Care Foundation: After Fatima’s passing, Hidayat and Brenda Khan turned their grief into a commitment to help others by establishing the Fatima Care Foundation. Inspired by Fatima’s compassionate spirit and her desire to help those in need, the Foundation’s mission is to support the rehabilitation and development of humanity through welfare, relief, and compassionate assistance.

  Addressing Global Needs: The Foundation is dedicated to supporting disaster-stricken communities and refugees, especially those who are far from their families and without adequate resources. Recognizing the challenges faced by refugee families in the USA, Fatima Care Foundation works to help children grow up healthy, educated, and safe.

 Through their efforts, Hidayat and Brenda Khan have transformed their sorrow into a force for positive change, honoring Fatima’s legacy by helping and uplifting those in need.

 One of the important purposes of Fatima Care Foundation is to help families during times of urgent need, including assistance with necessary funeral expenses, so that no family has to face these difficult costs alone.

   “He who joins a funeral procession and takes three turns to help carry the bier has discharged his obligation to the dead.” (Wisdom of the Holy Prophet: P.64)
 Many individuals and refugee families are far from their loved ones and may have little or no support during times of need. Fatima Care Foundation strives to be there for them with compassion, dignity, and practical assistance.

   We established Fatima Care Foundation in Fatima’s memory to continue her spirit of compassion and service by helping people and communities in times of need.
